Cavendish Farms Helps Inspire Learning Centre in Summerside

October 17, 2016

Summerside, PE – Cavendish Farms announced a donation of $150,000 to the Inspire Learning Centre. The capital campaign, an initiative of the Rotary Club of Summerside, will provide a new, modern community learning centre for residents of East Prince.

"Access to educational resources and opportunities is fundamental to the growth, success and sustainability of communities," said Robert K. Irving, president of Cavendish Farms. "Having a place where residents of all ages can come together to learn and connect is vital to enriching everyone's lives. We are happy to support this new centre."

Twenty-five years after opening, the Summerside Rotary Library has outgrown their current location. In need of a new home, a capital campaign was launched to purchase, renovate and open the Inspire Learning Centre. The Inspire Learning Centre will be in the former post office on Central Street in the city's downtown. It will double the footprint of the current library. The contribution provides naming rights to the first floor of the three-story building, which will be announced at a later date.

Expected to open mid-December after renovations to the building are complete, fundraising chair, Stephen Cudmore says the new centre will be community changing. "This isn't the library of the past," said Cudmore. "An innovative facility like this has the potential to become a catalyst for personal, social, and economic growth. The opportunity to engage in activities that inspire learning, creativity, and research is empowering to the residents of our community."

The capital campaign's goal is to raise $2.5 million. To date, the Summerside Rotary Club has raised more than $2.3 million.

"Contributions to this capital campaign will provide benefits to the community as soon as it opens and well into the future," said Mr. Irving. "I encourage other organizations to support this worthwhile project."
